Can hypnotherapy really help me?

"Hypnotherapy was associated with improvement in 80% of patients with persistent asthma, chest pain/pressure, habit cough, hyperventilation, shortness of breath, sighing, and vocal cord dysfunction. ... No patients' symptoms worsened and no new symptoms emerged following hypnotherapy.

Patients described in this report were unlikely to have achieved rapid improvement in their symptoms without the use of hypnotherapy. Therefore, hypnotherapy can be an important complementary therapy for patients in a pediatric practice."

"Hypnosis has many practical uses, and these days it is becoming increasingly popular as a method of behavior modification."
Lauren Gudritz

"Hypnosis: Another way to manage pain, kick bad habits

Hypnotherapy has the potential to help relieve the symptoms of a wide variety of diseases and conditions. It can be used independently or along with other treatments. For example, it's one of several relaxation methods for treating chronic pain that has been approved by an independent panel convened by the National Institutes of Health. Hypnosis conducted under the care of a trained therapist is considered a safe complementary and alternative medicine treatment."

Does Hypnotherapy Really Work?

  • Psychoanalysis 38 percent recovery after 600 sessions

  • Behavior therapy 72 percent recovery after 22 sessions

  • Hypnotherapy 93 percent recovery after 6 sessions

in an article/report by Dr. Alfred Barrios, a clinical psychologist (BS Caltech, Ph.D. UCLA) - American Health Magazine

In other equally excellent articles, Dr. Barrios explores why there's a great reluctance to use Hypnotherapy as a mainstream complementary therapy (briefly, ignorance, fear of the unknown, etc.).

There are also other social, political and economical factors why those with deep vested interests wouldn't wish to encourage complementary therapies.

YOU’VE GOT TO HAVE HOPE: STUDIES SHOW “HOPE THERAPY” FIGHTS DEPRESSION,  “And the great news is that it seems to work – we can teach people how to be more hopeful.” Jennifer Cheavens, Ohio State University, 16 August 2008

Hypnosis, Memory and the Brain. "A new study points to specific areas of the brain affected by hypnosis. ... Hypnosis Is Real. ... hypnotic suggestions influence brain activity, not just behavior and experience." Scientific American Oct 07 08

Hypnosis has been around for thousands of years in one form or another. Countless hypnotherapy practitioners, clients and patients have testified about their success with hypnosis.

Increasingly, scientific and clinical studies are being conducted to verify the effectiveness of hypnotherapy. For some issues, hypnotherapy seems to have a very high success rate. Smoking cessation, the removal of fears and phobias, changing habits, etc. are just a few examples of hypnotherapy success stories.

Can hypnotherapy really help you? That depends upon a number of factors:

  • What is the issue or condition that you need help with?

  • Do you really want to make the changes or improvements?

  • Success depends upon how well you and your hypnotherapist work together to achieve your goal

  • If there is a medical issue, you need a referral from your doctor
